Chesterton Police are investigating the theft on Thursday of a heavily
customized Harley Davidson motorcycle from an apartment complex in the 700
block of Woodlawn Ave.
According to police, sometime between 12:30 and 7:50 a.m. someone removed
the 1999 H-D Fat Boy from the front of the complex. The victim advised that
the thief must have rolled the bike onto a trailer without starting it, as
the customized “straight pipe” exhaust system is very loud.
The bike is black with red flames, the rear fender is maroon, the gas tank
has a red flaming skull on it, and all parts are chrome.
A witness did report seeing a suspicious person in the neighborhood around
12:30 a.m., described as a white male subject, short, with a buzz cut. That
subject was subsequently picked up by the driver of a gray and red pickup
truck which drove “slowly” by the victim’s residence and then left the area
eastbound on Woodlawn Ave., police said.
Police estimated the loss at $15,000.
