A 16-year-old Culver’s employee was injured Tuesday when a motorist to whom she was delivering food in the parking lot ran over her foot, Chesterton Police said.

According to police, at 1:30 p.m. the girl had just delivered the motorist’s order when he “took off fast,” his rear wheel running over the girl’s left foot and taking her leg with it, “bending it too far to the left.”

The girl then finished her shift at Culver’s, in no little pain, and police noted that her manager neither called 911 to report the accident nor offered to take her to the hospital.

The girl’s mother subsequently took her to the Franciscan Alliance ER department on Indian Boundary Road, where she was diagnosed with “acute pain of left knee, mild sprain of left ankle, and contusion of left foot,” police said.

The driver was described as a white male in his mid to late thirties, with short brown hair like a buzz-cut and long brown beard. He was driving a large dark-colored pickup truck.

Police said that Culver’s is preparing to share video surveillance footage with the CPD.
