Back To Front Page

All westbound lanes of the Indiana Toll Road were closed this morning at 39 mile marker in LaPorte County--directly under U.S. Highway 421--following a crash, the Indiana State Police was reporting.

According to police, at approximately 6 a.m. a semi-tractor trailer was southbound on U.S. 421 when, for unknown reasons, it left the roadway, went down the embankment onto the Toll Road, and hit a pickup pulling a trailer.

There were injuries, police said, but none of them were life-threatening.

The ISP was advising of major delays and long backups and urging motorists to seek alternate routes.

A large amount of oil and diesel fuel was spilled, and clean-up and recovery could be extended, police added.
