Crash closes Cline Avenue ramp early today

Back To Front Page

A semi accident early this morning forced the closure of the eastbound I-80/94 ramp for Cline Ave. for nearly five hours, the Indiana State Police said.

According to police, at 12:08 a.m. trucker Randall L. Dystra, 60, of Beecher, Ill., was eastbound on I-80/94 when his rig pulled to the left in a patch of slushy snow and struck the impact attenuator at the front of the concrete barrier wall dividing the Cline Ave. ramp from the main lanes of traffic.

The semi--hauling scrap metal--slid down the concrete barrier wall, causing the rig to jackknife across the right lane of the ramp, and tearing off the Mack tractorís front drive tires and a set of the trailerís rear tandems.

Dystra was transported to Saint Catherineís Hospital in East Chicago with a complaint of pain, police said.

The ramp was closed until 4:28 a.m.
