A single-semi
accident on I-80/94 in Lake County congested rush-hour traffic early this
morning, the Indiana State Police said.
According to
police, at 6:49 a.m. trucker Pierre Jordan, 34, of Chicago, was westbound in
the right lane when, at the Grant Street overpass, he left the roadway for
unknown reasons and struck a guardrail on the right shoulder.
The impact caused
the rig’s fuel tanks to rupture, a large amount of diesel fuel was spilled,
and it took responders until 8:30 a.m. to complete cleanup and re-open all
lanes of traffic.
Jordan was driving
for Pace Air Freight of Indianapolis.
The ISP is
reminding motorists to pay close attention when driving in construction
zones. “Distracted driving has caused two semi truck crashes in less than 24
hours at this particular location and each crash resulted in long
unnecessary delays for the traveling public,” the ISP said.
