Two Duneland teens were injured on Saturday after the moped on which they
were riding was struck by a passenger vehicle at the intersection of West
Indiana Ave. and 12th Street, Chesterton Police said.
According to police, at 5:18 p.m. Milissa L. Beale, 34, of 1131 Vine St. in
Porter, was northbound on 12th Street when she proceeded from a stop sign
and struck the front end of a moped westbound on West Indiana Ave.
The operator of the moped was Lacy N. Metros, 16, of Porter, and her
passenger was Erin L. Tomlin, also 16, of Chesterton.
Police said that Metros did not have a stop sign at the intersection.
Metros and Tomlin both sustained abrasions to their legs and were
transported to the Franciscan Alliance ER department on Indian Boundary Road
for treatment, police said.
Beale advised police that she did not see the moped.
Beale was taken into custody on an active warrant issued through Porter
County and charging her with failure to appear on a charge of driving while
suspended-infraction, police said.
Beale was transported to Porter County Jail.
Police estimated total damage to Beale’s 2008 Jeep Commander and Metros’
2011 Ling Yu moped at up to $5,000.
