The Chesterton Police Department is warning folks to beware of sales pitches
purportedly endorsed by local enforcement.
The warning comes after a resident on Friday reported receiving a recorded
message at home from the “Pacific Teleconference Group” to the effect that
“the local police” have recommended an unspecified insurance product.
The resident found that claim “offensive,” the CPD said, and expressed
concern “that the elderly could be swayed to buy something they did not
really need because of the stamp of approval from ‘the local police.’”
“The public should know that the CPD does not recommend products or
services,” the CPD said.
When an attempt was made to call “Pacific Teleconference Group,” the number
registered by Caller ID had already been disconnected, the CPD added.
