Chesterton Police are investigating what appears to have been a deliberate hit-and-run accident on North Waverly Road on Sunday.

According to police, at 5:15 a.m., in an incident caught on surveillance tape, the driver of a newer model white Ford Taurus entered a driveway in the 100 block of North Waverly Road, turned on its signals and/or hazard lights, then drove into the garage’s large overhead door, damaging three of the bottom panels. The driver then backed out of the driveway and left the scene southbound on North Waverly Road.

Police said that the Ford Taurus had tinted windows, tinted sunroof, and black or dark colored wheels.

“No suspect information was available at the time of the report,” police said. “The investigation is on-going.”

Police estimated damage to the garage at up to $2,500.
