Chesterton Police are investigating what appears to be a bullet or BB hole in the front window of a residence in the 1800 block of West Porter Ave.

According to police, at 11:54 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, one of the homeowners heard “what he believed to be a gunshot.” On investigation, he discovered a hole in the front pane of his double-paned window--approximately 1/3’’ to 1/2’’ in diameter--with spiderweb-cracking around it.

The projectile failed to penetrate the second pane but shards from the first had fallen between the two, police said.

A search in the glass and front yard failed to produce the projectile in question.

“The bullet strike appeared as though it might have been a BB pellet or air-soft round fired from a similar type weapon,” police said.

The victims “stated that they have no known enemies in the neighborhood and have only lived in the residence for approximately one year,” police noted. “They have good relationships with neighbors and couldn’t think of any reason why their residence would be targeted.”

No estimate of damage was available.
