Chesterton Police
are investigating the attempted burglary on Tuesday of a residence in the
1600 block of Snead Ave. in the Estates of Sand Creek.
According to
police, at 12:24 p.m. officers were dispatched to the home in response to an
activated residential alarm. On their arrival, officers found two distinct
sets of shoe impressions in the snow which “went towards the direction of
all the doors and windows.”
On the east side of
the residence, facing Sand Creek Golf Course, the screen door on the
exterior of each of several sliding glass doors was found open, police said.
Then, on the far
southeast of the residence, a sliding glass door was found ajar, by four to
six inches, police said. The suspect, however, had been unable to open it
any further, as a rod had been placed in the interior door track, and no
entry of the residence was made.
The door’s locking
mechanism had been forced, police said.
The homeowner
subsequently advised police that she’d left her home only 20 minutes before
the alarm was activated.
Surveillance tapes
shot by cameras at the subdivision’s gated entrance were to be made
available to investigators, police said.
