Chesterton Police will accept unwanted guns for disposal

Back To Front Page

Chesterton residents who wish to dispossess themselves of legally owned but unwanted firearms may surrender them to the Chesterton Police Department, 790 Broadway.

Police Chief Dave Cincoski said that gun owners should come to the station during business hours, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and should call ahead--926-1136--to alert officers on station.

Handguns and long rifles should be unloaded--magazine removed and action open--and transported in a box or bag. “Dissassembled as far as you can is also good but not necessary,” Cincoski said.

The CPD will then dispose of the gun properly.
