Chase Bank robbed in Portage three suspects detained for questioning

Back To Front Page

Portage Police were reporting that three suspects in the armed robbery on Tuesday of Chase Bank at 3275 Willowcreek Road were in custody.

According to police, the three fled the scene in a black Nissan and officers responded to the bank by different routes in the hope of spotting the car. Officer Matt Johnson did locate a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle at the intersection of Lute Road and Airport Road and executed a traffic stop on it within two minutes of the first dispatch, police said.

The three occupants of the vehicle gave conflicting accounts of their activity and were subsequently detained for questioned by detectives, police said.

“At this time we believe we have the subjects responsible and there is no further danger to the community,” Police Chief Troy Williams said. “I do want to commend the efforts of the Porter County Central Communications dispatcher and Portage Police patrol officers and specifically Officer Johnson for quick communication and action.”

No further information about the robbery or the suspects was available this morning.
