Charged with OWI in fatal accident on Silhavy Road

A motorist has been charged in connection with a traffic fatality in an accident on Silhavy Road in Valparaiso on Monday, March 3.

Gregory Conley, 39--no address listed--has been charged with operating while intoxicated-causing death, OWI-causing serious bodily injury, and leaving the scene of an accident.

The accident occurred shortly before 8 p.m., when according to Valparaiso Police, Conley struck another vehicle head-on. Dead at the scene was Marion Woodmaster; injured, Charles Woodmaster.

Police said that Conley was southbound on Silhavy Road, just south of Glendale Blvd., when he initially drifted across the center line and struck a vehicle northbound on Silhavy. Conley continued southbound, then approximately 300 feet further struck the vehicle occupied by the Marions.

Conley showed signs of being under the influence and tested positive for benzodiazepines, cocaine, and opiates in a blood draw authorized by a search warrant and conducted at Franciscan Health Crown Point. There was no alcohol in his system, police said.
