Chesterton firefighters responded to a one-vehicle accident with injuries on Sunday in the eastbound lanes of I-94.

Lt. Steven Himan told the Chesterton Tribune that, shortly after 7:30 p.m., a vehicle with four occupants overturned on I-94 just east of the Ind. 49 exit. Initial reports indicated that a female occupantís legs had been pinned beneath the overturned vehicle but, on their arrival, firefighters found that the womanís feet had actually been protruding through the driverís side window.

Firefighters assisted the woman out of the vehicle, Himan said. In the meantime, the other three occupants had been able to exit the vehicle under their own power.

All four were transported to hospital with unknown injuries.

The Indiana State Police responded to the scene but as of deadline today the ISP had released no information on the crash. Himan was unable to comment on the cause of the crash except to say that the vehicle apparently struck the median wall.

Assisting at the scene were a Burns Harbor FD ambulance and two Porter Regional Hospital ambulances, Himan added.

The CFD cleared the scene at 8:12 p.m.
