Election Board President David Welter died last month of cardiopulmonary
arrest associated with ethanol toxicity.
“After a review of
autopsy and toxicology results, the cause of death for David Welter has been
ruled as cardiopulmonary arrest with ethanol toxicity,” according to a
statement released to the Chesterton Tribune on Monday by Coroner
Cyndi Dykes. “Manner of death is accidental.”
“There is no
further investigation pending,” Dykes added.
Welter, 59, was
found deceased in the 1300 block of Bullseye Court in Valparaiso shortly
after 8 a.m. Dec. 9. A professor of law at Valparaiso University for 25
years, Welter had been appointed to the Election Board in March 2019.
