More than 1,000 NIPSCO customers lost power in Westchester Township, Downtown Chesterton, and Morgan Park, after a car hit a utility pole on Brummitt Road, the Northern Indiana Public Service Company said.

NIPSCO spokesman Nick Meyer told the Chesterton Tribune today that the accident occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Brummitt Road east of Indian Boundary Road.

A total of 1,162 customers were affected.

By 10:15 p.m. or so, repairs had been made and the juice restored to all customers, Meyer said.
