The Porter Fire Department’s Dive/Rescue Team conducted a fruitless search
on Sunday for a boat on Lake Michigan reported to be on fire.
Fire Chief Lewis Craig told the Chesterton Tribune today that, at
12:49 p.m., divers from both the Porter and Portage fire departments
launched rescue boats from the Portage Marina, after the U.S. Coast Guard
received a report of a boat on fire approximately three miles out on the
lake.
Diver searched for three hours without finding anything, Craig said.
The PFD cleared the scene at 3:42 p.m.
