Ashley’s Jewelry by Design was the victim of a smash-and-grab burglary in the early morning hours of Tuesday, Nov. 5, Chesterton Police are reporting.

According to police, at 3:11 a.m. officers were dispatched to Ashley’s, 221 Broadway, after an alarm at the business was activated.

Police said that the glass front door was shattered and six jewelry cases inside the store broken.

Video surveillance footage shows a suspect dressed in black pantsÑprobably Adidas brand, with three white stripes on the side of both legsÑa navy blue sweatshirt, and white shoes exiting the store and headed west on the sidewalk.

There also appeared to be a second suspect, acting as a lookout, but not enough of this person was visible in the footage for a description, police said.

It was unclear at the time of the CPD report what exactly was stolen and how much the items were worth. But the owners believe a partial inventory of the stolen merchandise includes pieces by Frederic Duclos, sample rings with the Ashley’s logo by Endless Design, sterling silver necklaces with 14K gold trim by Phillip Gavriel, and watches by Citizen.
