A Schererville motorist and his passenger sustained minor injuries on Friday
after their vehicle rolled on I-65 in Jasper County, the Indiana State
Police said.
According to police, at 5:50 p.m. Brandon M. Stefano, 18, was southbound on
I-65, at the 231 mile marker just north of Demotte, when he swerved his 2002
Chevrolet Camaro to avoid tire tread in the road. Stefano over-corrected and
his Camaro left the road, rolled three times, and came to rest on its
driver’s side up against a tree.
The Camaro had T-tops, police said, and the roof above Stefano and his
passenger, Jessica L. Kaminsky, 18, also of Schererville, was open, police
said. But they were wearing seatbelts and were not ejected.
Stefano and Kaminsky were transported to Saint Anthony’s Hospital in Crown
Point for cuts and abrasions, police said.
“They could have easily been ejected out of the Camaro had they not both
taken the time to wear their seatbelts,” police said. “This is a good
example of why wearing your seatbelt could save your life.”
The Camaro was a total loss.
