A Liberty Township man was killed in a two vehicle accident on Friday at the
intersection of Ind. 49 and C.R. 600N, the Porter County Sheriff’s Police
said.
The victim was identified as Steven W. Smith, 55.
According to police, at 12:11 p.m. Smith, in a 1998 Chevrolet Blazer, was
westbound on C.R. 600N and attempting to cross the southbound lanes of Ind.
49 when he was struck by a second vehicle southbound in the left lane of
Ind. 49.
The driver of the second vehicle was Walter A. Noah, 51, of Chicago.
Noah advised police that he attempted to swerve his 2009 Chevrolet HHR to
the right but was unable to avoid collision.
The crash remains under investigation, police said.
