GARY, Ind. (AP) — Police say a man was fatally shot along Lake County’s Borman Expressway when another driver pulled up alongside his car and opened fire.

Tyron Hopkins, 43, was pronounced dead early Friday of a gunshot wound to the head at the Methodist Hospitals Northlake Campus in Gary, the AP reported.

According to the Indiana State Police, at 10:39 p.m. Thursday Hopkins was on the ramp from southbound Grant Street to eastbound I-80 when a second vehicle pulled alongside his 1995 Ford Escort. The driver of the second—and still unidentified—vehicle then shot Hopkins with a firearm.

Evidence was recovered at the scene and investigators are seeking a person of interest, police said last week.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call ISP Det. Brian Kubiak at (219) 696-6242.

Thursday’s shooting is the second is less than a month on I-80. In the first, at 9:03 p.m. Aug. 23, a man in a dark-colored pickup truck pulled alongside a motorist westbound on I-80, west of Grant Street, and after apparently trying to force her off the road, took a position on her passenger’s side and fired one round at her door with a silver handgun.

The woman was not struck by the bullet but did sustain an injury when a plastic shard from her car door hit her hand.

The suspect in that shooting had white hair and was wearing a baseball cap. A bullet was recovered from the woman’s vehicle.
