A Chesterton motorcyclist was killed in a two vehicle accident on Tuesday on U.S. Highway 30 and a Valparaiso motorist has been charged in connection with the crash, Valparaiso Police said.

Police identified the victim as Derek Dodd, 23, of Chesterton. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, at 9:08 p.m. Dodd was eastbound on U.S. 30 when he rear ended a pickup truck driven by Gene Spratley, 58, of Valparaiso, as Spratley was turning southbound onto Sager Road.

Police said that Spratley then fled the scene but was subsequently located in the area of Sager Road and C.R. 50S.

Spratley was arrested on charges of operating while intoxicated and leaving the scene of a fatal crash, police said.
