CHESTERTON,
Ind. (AP) — The National Weather Service says a tornado packing winds up
to 120 mph tore the roofs off a school gymnasium and an apartment building
in northwestern Indiana.
The weather
service says Wednesday night's tornado left a 2 1/2-mile-long path of
damage as it cut across the Porter County town of Chesterton about 15
miles east of Gary.
The tornado,
which left a five-block-wide path of damage, tore away the Chesterton
Middle School gymnasium roof, heavily damaged its glass atrium and left
water damage in classrooms.
Town Manager
Bernie Doyle says one minor injury was reported as the storm moved
through, also damaging several homes and causing power outages.
