A Wanatah man died Friday in a one vehicle accident on C.R. 600N in Jackson
Township, the Porter County Sheriff’s Police said.
Police identified the victim as Aaron Davis, 28. He was pronounced dead at
the scene and Porter County Coroner Vicki Deppe told the Chesterton Tribune
today that, at an autopsy conducted on Monday, the cause of death was
determined to be blunt force trauma to the chest, head, and neck.
According to police, at 9:06 p.m. Davis was westbound on C.R. 600N when he
drifted off the roadway to the north just east of C.R. 450E. Davis’s 1998
Ford Ranger hit a ditch, vaulted over a farmer’s access to a field, and
landed on its roof, causing it to roll several times, police said, and Davis
was ejected. Davis was not wearing a seat belt, police said.
Deppe said that the results of a routine toxicology screen are pending, but
an investigating officer noted in his report that he detected the odor of
alcohol on Davis’ breath.
