Liberty Firefighters and South Haven firefighters worked together Monday to douse a fire on Eaglewood Rd. in Liberty Twp.

At 3:25 p.m. Liberty and South Haven were dispatched to a possible structure fire on Eaglewood Rd. in Liberty Twp. South Haven F.D. was first on the scene and Liberty units arrived shortly thereafter. (Liberty Firefighters had been dispatched at 3:18 p.m. to the 300 block of East Tratebas Rd. in Jackson Twp for a medical call.)

The fire on Eaglewood Rd. was contained to the living room. The fire was started by an air pump on a large aquarium that malfunctioned.

Damage was estimated to be approximately $10,000 due to smoke and water damage. However, according to Ray Wesley, L.T.V.F.D. public information officer, the fire was extinguished by a portable water fire extinguisher. Water damage was caused by the large amount of water contained in the aquarium that ruptured

There were no injuries reported to the occupants or firefighters. Both departments cleared the scene at 4:21 PM.

The duel response agreement with all surrounding departments for a report of a structure fire, proved to be very beneficial, Wesley said.
