A LaPorte County man remains hospitalized after a shooting on Friday and his
roommate is being held, the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Police.
Police identified the victim as William L. Burnson, 25, of 3117 Edgebrook
Drive in the Weatherstone Village Manufactured Home Community on 1100 W. U.S.
Highway 20. He was transported to St. Anthony Memorial Health Center in
Michigan City with multiple gunshot wounds and then airlifted to Christ
Hospital in Oak Lawn, Ill.
Meanwhile, his roommate, Barrett M. Almus, 25, has been charged preliminarily
with criminal recklessness, a Class D felony punishable by a term of six
months to three years; and dealing heroin, a Class B felony punishable by a
term of six to 20 years. Almus is being held in the LaPorte County Jail,
police said, and is tentatively scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday.
According to police, officers were dispatched to the men’s residence at 8:38
a.m. Friday in response to a report of a shooting. The shooting remains under
investigation, police said, and additional charges could be filed.
