A contractual food service employee at the Indiana State Prison in Michigan City was arrested Sunday on a charge of trafficking, the Indiana Department of Corrections (DOC) said.

According to the DOC, Thomas Fly, 25, was found in possession of two ounces of marijuana when reporting for work at 3 a.m.

Internal Affairs Investigator Charles Whelan said that the marijuana, wrapped in plastic, was observed falling from Fly’s pants leg and subsequently recovered by staff.

Fly was transported to the LaPorte County Jail by Indiana State Police and has been charged with attempting to traffic with an offender, a Class C felony punishable by a term of two to eight years, and possession of marijuana, a Class D felony punishable by a term of six months to three years.

Earlier this month a contract nurse at the Indiana State Prison was charged with trafficking after the DOC said that he attempted to smuggle into the facility eight packs of cigarettes wrapped in aluminum foil but was foiled by the metal detector.
