Graffiti found along Prairie Duneland Trail

Chesterton Police are investigating a vandalism spree along the Prairie Duneland Trail between the parking lot at South Jackson Blvd. and Babcock Road.

According to police, at 2:54 an officer on patrol observed a sign at the intersection of the trail and South Jackson Blvd. to have been damaged. On further investigation, the officer found 19 signs had been spray-painted or gouged with a sharp object or both. In addition, a post near the 23rd Street crossing had been spray-painted, letters were spray-painted on the trail itself near Golfview Estates, and the restroom structure near South Jackson Blvd. had been lettered with permanent black marker.

A stop sign at the intersection South Jackson Blvd. and West Morgan Ave. had also been gouged and lettered, police said.

No estimate of total damage was available.
