The Porter County Sheriff’s Police is investigating the daytime burglary on
Wednesday of a residence in the 500 north block of C.R. 400E in Washington
Township.
According to police, sometime between 12:30 and 3 p.m. someone forced entry
into the residence by forcing the front door, then took a 46-inch LCD
television, two cameras, and a camcorder.
Police estimated total damage and loss at $4,650.
Over the last month or so the PCSP has investigated a rash of burglaries in
Pine and Jackson townships, although the number more recently has dwindled.
Most of those burglaries were committed during the daytime hours while
residents were at work. Entry has generally been forced with doors kicked in
or pried open.
Most recently, on Tuesday, a resident of the 500 block of Old Chicago Road
in Pine Township arrived home at 11:45 a.m. and apparently surprised a
burglar in the act. The burglar fled successfully through the garage. A rear
entry door in the garage had been forced open.
On June 9 Porter Police received a report of a daytime burglary in the 1600
block of North Tremont Road and the theft from the residence of several
firearms and a diamond necklace. It is unknown whether this burglary is in
any way connected with the previous ones in Pine and Jackson. It is also
unknown whether the Washington Township job on Wednesday is connected with
the previous ones either.
The PPD did, however, release a description of the suspect and his vehicle:
a Hispanic male with dark hair and mustache wearing a light-colored shirt or
worker’s vest, driving a dark blue compact car, possible a Ford Focus.
