Daytime burglary in Porter

Back to Front Page

Firearms and jewelry were stolen on June 9 in the latest forced-entry burglary in rural northern Porter County, this one in the Town of Porter.

According to police, at 2:04 p.m. a resident of the 1600 block of North Tremont Road observed a dark blue compact car, possibly a Ford Focus, driven by a male subject, exit her driveway. At the time, she advised police, she believed the subject to be a meter reader.

The resident subsequently discovered, however, that someone had forced entry to her front porch, then entered the residence itself through an unlocked window on the porch. Removed from the residence were a Rohm revolver, a King Model 85 Muzzleloader with composite stock and scope, an Ithaca 12-gauge shotgun, and a diamond bracelet.

No estimate of damage was available.

Police described the subject seen in the car as a Hispanic man with dark hair and mustache and wearing a light-colored shirt or worker’s vest.

Over the last month or so the Porter County County Sheriff’s Police has investigated a number of burglaries committed in Pine and Jackson townships, most of them committed during the daytime while residents were at work. Entry has generally been forced with doors kicked in.
