A Porter County woman died Tuesday in a two vehicle accident on the
Willowcreek Bypass, Portage Police said.
The victim was identified as Helen Neundorff, 50, by Porter County Coroner
Chuck Harris.
According to police, at 12:13 p.m. Neundorff was northbound on the Bypass at
a high rate of speed when she lost control of her Nissan Altima, crossed the
center line, and was struck by a Chevrolet Silverado southbound on the
Bypass.
Neundorff was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 47-year-old male driver of the Silverado, a resident of Portage, was not
identified by the PPD. He had minor complaints of pain and declined
treatment at the scene, police said.
An autopsy was scheduled for this morning, Harris told the Chesterton
Tribune today. The results of a routine toxicology screen are pending.
Harris said that Neundorff had a Michigan City address but resided in Porter
County.
The accident is under investigation by the PPD Crash Team and the Bypass was
closed for approximately two hours.
