Chesterton Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying a bicyclist who ran over a mother and child on Saturday, May 10, outside a downtown business.

According to police, at approximately 2:22 p.m. a woman holding her 2-year-old daughter had just stepped outside Margo Manchnik Photography at 135 S. Calumet Road when a bicyclist northbound on the sidewalk struck them. The bicyclist stopped long enough to apologize, then continued northbound on South Calumet Road. Officers were unable to locate him.

Police said that the mother sustained an abrasion to her back and the girl abrasions to her face and head. They were treated on the scene by EMS personnel from Porter hospital.

The bicyclist was described as a Hispanic male, around 25 years of age, wearing a striped shirt and riding a red, white, and blue mountain bike.

Anyone with information on the bicyclist should contact the CPD at 926-1136.
