Police seek public help in finding owner of dogs in attack on jogger

Back to Front Page

Chesterton Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying the owner of two dogs which charged and inflicted multiple bite wounds on a jogger on Friday.

According to police, at 5:20 p.m. a 37-year-old woman was jogging on Sandpiper Drive in Duneland Cove when the dogs attacked her. She described them as a small white bulldog—the more aggressive of the two—and a small white mix.

The victim subsequently was treated at the Chesterton After Hours Clinic for what Lt. Dave Lohse of the CPD characterized as “fairly serious” bite wounds.

Police interviewed residents of Sandpiper Drive but were unable to find anyone familiar with the dogs or with their owner.

Lohse, who is conducting the investigation, noted that Sandpiper Drive runs the length of the northern and eastern edges of Duneland Cove and that it’s possible the dogs’ owner resides in unincorporated Westchester Township.

Porter County Animal Control was advised of the incident.

Anyone who is acquainted with the dogs or their owner is urged to call Lohse at the Chesterton Police Department at 926-1136.
