A Portage
motorist was injured on Wednesday when her vehicle was struck by a train at
the grade crossing at Samuelson and Old Porter roads, Portage Police said.
According to police, at 10 p.m. Deborah L. Green, 56, was southbound on
Samuelson when she was struck by a westbound train traveling approximately 20
miles per hour.
That grade crossing has no gates, police said.
Green, the only occupant of the vehicle, sustained internal injuries, police
said, and was transported to Porter Valparaiso Hospital Campus, then
airlifted to Loyola Hospital in Chicago.
Police said that the accident remains under investigation.
