Indiana State Police said they stopped a car on I-94 in Westchester Township Saturday evening and found $153,900 in cash hidden inside.

Police said that at about 8 p.m. State Trooper Mike Jones was eastbound on I-94 when he saw a westbound 1988 Cadillac driving on the shoulder with no headlights. Jones turned around and caught up with the vehicle 1 1/2 miles east of Ind. 49. Police said the stories given by the two male occupants conflicted and consent was given to search the vehicle.

With assistance from Jones’ canine partner, Boss, two hidden compartments were discovered in the arm rests in the back seat. Offices found two large zip-locked bags full of paper money.

Police said the driver and passenger, both from Highland Park, Michigan, said they had no knowledge about the money. The vehicle was impounded, the money confiscated, and the driver was cited for driving while suspended, police said. Both driver and passenger were released, police said.

Assisting the ISP was the Porter Police Department.
