A Knox, Ind., man died on Thursday in a one vehicle accident on Ind. 8 in
Pleasant Township, the Porter County Sheriff’s Police said.
The victim was identified as William Maller, 82.
According to police, at 5:19 p.m. Maller was a front-seat passenger in a 2003
Chevrolet Venture being driven by his wife, Ann Maller, 79. Police said that
Ann Maller was eastbound on Ind. 8 in the area of C.R. 300E when she lost
control of her vehicle on the icy road surface, crossed the center line, and
traveled approximately 50 feet north in a field, where it crashed into a
parked John Deere bulldozer.
Police said that the Mallers were transported to Porter Valparaiso Hospital
Campus, where William Maller died of his injuries.
Both were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash, police said.
That crash was the first of two weather-related fatal accidents on Thursday.
In the second, which occurred only minutes later, at 5:33 p.m., Lisa M.
Abramson, 35, of Jackson Township, died when she lost control of her vehicle
on C.R. 400E and struck a concrete bridge support for the Indiana Toll Road
in the area of C.R. 950N. Three children in the back seat of Abramson’s
vehicle were injured.
