A Valparaiso man has died of injuries sustained in a two vehicle accident on Thursday on U.S. Highway 6 in Jackson Township.

Nicholas Parry, 20, died at 10:25 a.m. on Friday of a cerebral hemorrhage, a little more than 24 hours after being airlifted to St. James Hospital & Health Centers in Olympia Fields, Ill., a spokesman for the Cook County, Ill., Medical Examiner told the Chesterton Tribune today.

According to the Porter County Sheriff’s Police, at 7:36 a.m. on Thursday Parry was eastbound in the left lane of U.S. 6 and for an unknown reason lost control of his Honda Accura, rear ended a second vehicle in the left lane, then left the roadway to the south and hit a tree on the driver’s side.

Firefighters from Liberty Township Volunteer Fire Department extricated Parry from his car, removing the driver’s side door to get access to him, while Chesterton firefighters prepared a landing zone for a UCAN helicopter at Jackson Elementary School at 811N 400E. Parry was transported by Porter hospital EMS to the school and then airlifted to St. James Hospital.

The driver of the second vehicle, Janice Reineke, 53, of Jackson Township, was not injured in the crash.
