A motorist narrowly escaped serious injury on Wednesday after her car ended
up wedged beneath a garbage transfer truck on I-80/94, the Indiana State
Police said.
Details are sketchy but at 1:53 p.m. the woman was westbound on I-80/94 at
the 27.8 mile marker when her 2000 Lincoln Continental collided with a 2000
Kenworth hauling garbage. The Chesterton Fire Department said that the
Lincoln came to rest just in front of the truck’s rear wheels. Amazingly no
extrication was necessary, the CFD said, and firefighters were able simply to
open her door and help her to exit.
The woman was transported to St. Anthony’s Memorial Health Care Centers in
Michigan City, where she was treated and released.
The ISP does not normally release full crash reports for motor vehicle
accidents which do not result in personal injuries.
The CFD cleared the scene at 1:21 p.m.
