Karl H. Erichsen dies at 82

Karl H. Erichsen, age 82, of Brook, Ind. passed away on Thursday January 1, 2009 at Lafayette Home Hospital, Lafayette. 

Karl was born in Denmark on October 16, 1926 the son of Andrain G. and Marie Erichsen, both of whom preceded him in death. 

He married Joan Nellessen who survives in Brook.

Also surviving are daughters, Monika (Robert) Reeise of Easley, N.C. and Heide (Tim) Cawby of Valparaiso; sons, Eric (Shari) Holst of Valparaiso, Gregory (Diane) Holst of Union Mills, and Scott Holst of Lawton, Okla.; 12 grandchildren; Christopher A., Aaron, Brian, Sabrina, Shannon, Rebecca, Robert, Jessica, Dane, Lauren, Mitch, and LeAna; 9 great grandchildren, Luke, Kennedy, Marc, Jordan, Justin, Jude, Jayda, David, Ryan Piere; sisters, Rosemarie Priess and Gerdi (Wolfgang) Kruse both of Sylt, W. Germany. 

He also was preceded in death by grandson Christopher S. Holst. 

Karl was a meat cutter with Strack & Van Till and Tittle Brothers grocery. He served in the German Army, 293rd Volksgrenadier Regiment and was wounded during the Battle of the Bulge. 

 A funeral service, Rev. Frederick Hoover officiating, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 6, at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton. Interment will be at Chesterton Cemetery. 

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Monday, January 5, at the funeral home. www.ee-fh.com
