Karin Viola Olson dies at 95

Karin Viola “Vi” Olson, 95, of Chesterton, passed away Saturday, March 14, 2009 at St. Anthony Memorial Hospital, Michigan City.

She was born January 16, 1914 in Union City, N.J. the son of John Erik and Hilda (Swenson) Carlson, both of whom preceded her in death.

On September 1, 1940 she married Robert F. Olson, who preceded her in death January 11, 1990.

She is survived by a son, Ronald Olson, of Los Angeles, Calif.; a daughter, Karen (John) York, of New Buffalo, Mich.; five grandchildren, Alison Olson, Erik (Kristen) Olson, Terah Olson, Kerry Johnson and John York; and two great-grandchildren, Amber and Aubrey.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter Arlene Olson and a sister, Ethel Smith.

Vi was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church since 1940 and active in church activities including W.E.L.C.A. and Lutheran Companions group of the church. She was a retired secretary, a member of Pinochle Club and the Keenagers Group.

Funeral services, Pastor Jane L. Aicher officiating, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 18 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 2050 W. 1100N, Chesterton. Interment will follow at Chesterton Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 17 at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. 2nd St., Chesterton and Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of service at Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

Memorials may be given to Bethlehem Lutheran Church or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
