Beverly Ann Bates dies at 72

Beverly Ann Bates, 71, of Reed City, formerly of Chesterton, died Wednesday, January 7 at Spectrum Health – Reed City Hospital.

She was born May 29, 1937 in Chicago, the daughter of William H. and Vera (Hayden) Taylor.

She married Marvin Bates on September 15, 1962.  He preceded her in death in October 1998.

Surviving are one daughter; Ruth Ann (Chris) Lawson of Reed City; two sons, Steven (Mary) Bates and David Bates, both of Reed City; a sister, Dorothy Wozniak of Chesterton; sister-in-law, Jane Rapp of Elkhart; seven grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Vera Boekeloo; and her brother, Fred Rapp, Jr.

Beverly attended Chicago area schools. She lived in Chesterton, until her husband retired in 1986 when she and her family moved to Lake County. She had been a homemaker, and also worked in food service at several local restaurants and retired from Spectrum Health – Reed City Campus cafeteria in 2004.  She was a member of the Calvary Gospel Church of Ashton.

Funeral services, Pastor Darryl Johnson officiating, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, January 10 at McDowell Funeral Home. Interment will be in Deer Lake Cemetery.  

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Saturday until time of services.

Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Gospel Church in Ashton.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
