Visitation Saturday for John David McMeans

John David McMeans, age 70 of Chesterton, IN, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2020.

He was born on February 10, 1950, in Valparaiso, IN, to John and Olive (Hetrick) McMeans.

John is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Julia (Rader) McMeans; three sons, Martin (Ashley) McMeans, Timothy John (Linda) Feitshans, David (Kelly) McMeans; daughter, Lora McMeans; his siblings, Paul, Helen, Bob, Sam, Betty, Kathy, George, Mary, Sandy, Debbie, Tom, Carrie, James, Peggy, Jody, and J.R.; grandchildren, Josh, Emily, Maddie, Lexi, Kayla, and Hannah; and many beloved nieces, nephews, in-laws, extended family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Janet; and brother, Dick.

John worked for many years as a Structural Steel Painter and traveled the country painting bridges. In recent years John was a tree trimmer, always accompanied by his loving companion, Audrey the Mountain Dog. He enjoyed morel mushroom hunting, Russian Sword Dancing, and many other activities not for the faint of heart. John loved visiting his many friends and spending time with his family. He could always be counted on to help anyone in need and standing up for the underdog.

Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m., on Saturday, June 27, 2020, at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, IN 46304.
