Verna M. 'Midge' Fornshell dies at 83

Verna M. "Midge" Fornshell, age 83 of Porter, IN, passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2020.

She was born on April 3, 1937, in Waukegan, IL, to Nicholas and Neomia (Terrien) Oke, both of whom preceded her in death.

On March 14, 1959, she married the love of her life, James "Rowdy" Fornshell, whom she was married to for 57 years before his death in February 2017.

Midge is survived by her loving daughters, Cara (Philip) Lau of Westville, IN, and Terry Byrd of Michigan City, IN.; her grandchildren, Tony Lau, Nicholas Lau, Benjamin (Megan Hill) Lau, Tonya (Tom) Troy, Cristina (Julian) Cobb, Michael Brown and Matthew Brown; seven great-grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.

She was also preceded in death by sisters, Nomie Lewis, Gail Horton and brothers, Jerry Oke and Wally Oke.

Midge and Rowdy together proudly owned the Village Tavern in Porter from 1979 to 2005 and made many friends and acquaintances over the 26 years they had the business. Midge had a special love of life and loved to socialize. She loved her swimming pool and reveled in having guests and parties there. She was proud of her Irish ancestry and loved celebrating St. Patrick's Day every year. She dearly loved her cats over the years and held a special place in her heart for Dusty, whom she recently lost.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Donations in Midge’s name may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association at LBDA.org or The Independent Cat Society, P.O. Box 735, Westville, IN 46391.
