Services and visitation Thursday for Mary Jo Sobieski

Mary Jo Sobieski of Otis, IN, passed away at Franciscan Health in Michigan City on January 4, 2020.

She was born on March 21, 1936, in Chesterton, IN, to Lucille and Claude Humphry.

She met Clem Sobieski at the Otis Post Office, who went on to be in the Air Force. She would continue contact with Clem by writing daily letters. On September 22, 1956, she married Clem Sobieski, who survives in Otis, IN.

Clem and Mary Jo spent 63 years together and had three children. Two of whom survive, Michael Sobieski of Westville, IN, and Mary Lynn Kesling of LaPorte, IN. She leaves four grandchildren, Brittany (Greg) Wireman, Kaytlyn (Justin) Nettrouer, Kyle Sobieski, and Colton Kesling. The couple also has four great-grandchildren.

People who preceded her in death include her parents and her son, Robert A. Sobieski.

Mary Jo was involved with St. Mary’s Church in Otis, IN, her entire life. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends. Mary would help out her friends at the local Malo’s Floral Shop in Chesterton around the holidays. If she wasn’t helping out somewhere, she was vacationing with family and friends or simply riding around Lake Michigan with her beloved husband.

Services will be held at St. Mary’s Church in Otis, IN, on Thursday, January 9, starting in the church with a 10 a.m. Visitation, followed by a 11 a.m. Mass. Burial will in Otis Cemetery with a luncheon held in St. Mary’s Hall.
