Brenda Sue Brueckheimer, age 59, of Porter, IN passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2020, exactly 10 years to the day that her mom passed away. She was born on June 6, 1961 in Valparaiso, IN to Robert and Genevieve (Pluta) Brueckheimer.

Brenda is survived by sister, Connie (Tom) Ellefson and Bobbie (Tim) Bower; brothers, Terry (Guadalupe) Brueckheimer and Craig Brueckheimer; many nieces, nephews and extended family; her dog, Spencer and two cats, Forrest and Jennie Lou. She was preceded in death by her parents, Genevieve Brueckheimer and Robert Brueckheimer.

Brenda was a very hard working person. She put her heart and soul into anything she got involved with. She worked for 15+ years at Universal Studios Orlando building movie sets and rides before coming back to her home town to be closer to her family. She began a new career as Building Commissioner for the Town of Porter and was then elected to Public Works Director. She loved her home town and was loved and respected by many residents. She never met a stranger and would give the shirt off her back to help those in need. She loved exploring the outdoors and found pleasure in camping & kayaking and found her “happy place” at her little brother’s house in Tennessee. She loved her extended family and would go to great lengths to make sure the kids had fun when the families got together. She received numerous awards for her service and dedication. She was an expert gardener and grew enormous sunflowers. Her backyard was her sanctuary where she enjoyed feeding all of the birds and critters that frequented it. Brenda fought a fierce three year battle with metastatic breast cancer. Her faith provided her the strength to endure the painful and sometimes almost unbearable treatments she faced.

Brenda wished to be cremated and a Memorial Service will be held at Portage United Methodist Church, 2637 McCool Rd., Portage, IN, on Thursday, October 29, 2020, at 11:00 a.m.

Memorials may be made to Porter County Animal Shelter at 3355 Bertholet Blvd., Valparaiso, Indiana 46383.

Arrangements are under the care of Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, Chesterton, IN. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.ee-fh
