DuWayne Miller passes away at age 74

DuWayne Miller, of Chesterton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 after a long illness.

He was born December 13, 1945, in Blue Island, IL, to Wayne and Sadie (Melton) Miller.

DuWayne graduated from Olivet Nazarene University with a degree in Physical Education. He began his career as a Phys Ed Teacher and Coach at River Forest/Hobart Township and then Duneland Schools, and then moved to US Steel where he held various positions, before retiring in Business Planning. DuWayne also served as a Griever with the US Steelworkers Union 6103. He was a member of the Elks in Valparaiso, and enjoyed supporting his grandsons at their sporting events, vacationing yearly with his wife in Arizona and St. Thomas USVI, and cheering for the White Sox and Bears. DuWayne was a hardworking man on the job and around his home and yard. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather, who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

On August 12, 1967, in Kankakee, IL, he married Tammy Maxfield, who survives, along with their children: LeeAnn (John) Campaniello of Valparaiso, Ryan Miller of Minneapolis, MN; grandsons: Kyle and Matthew Campaniello; and sisters: Elouise Hollenbaugh and Charlene (Joe) Hardman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Corrine Miller.

Following cremation, private family services will be held.

Memorial donations may be made to the family for the education of DuWayne’s grandsons. Moeller Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
