Bruce Edward Johnson, age 65 of Chesterton, passed on June 29, 2020.

He was born on November 2, 1954 to Elmer and Marjorie Johnson in Valparaiso, IN.

On August 14, 1976, he married Denise (Dee Dee) Michaels.

Bruce and Dee Dee lived in Chesterton, IN where they raised their four children.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Dee Dee L. Johnson; daughters, Jen Johnson, Kelli Johnson, Katie (Travis) Dunlop; son, Matt Johnson; grandchildren, Naya, Dimitri and baby Dunlop on the way; siblings, Pat (Dan) Olson, Phil (Sandy) Johnson and Peggy Trowbridge. Bruce also leaves behind his Aunt LaVerne, age 104, father-in-law, Gordon Michaels and sister-in-law Dawn (Jim) Loftin.

Bruce is preceded in death by his parents, mother-in-law, Pat Michaels and brother-in-law Perry Trowbridge.

Bruce began his life long carpentry knowledge working with his Uncle Gunnard Johnson. Within five years he established Johnson Brother Construction. For six years he built custom homes throughout the area. Bruce then spent nine years working as a machinist at US Steel. He ended his career retiring from Arcelor Mittal after twenty-two years of service.

Bruce enjoyed spending time at the family lake house, going to all Chicago sporting events (minus the Cubs). He could always be counted on to help with any problem; be it carpentry, electrical, plumbing or otherwise, that his family or friends encountered. Bruce loved his furry grand-pup, Axel. A true testament to the man that Bruce was, is the way he battled cancer. In October of 2016, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. He spent the next four years undergoing brain surgeries, radiation, immunotherapy, countless nights in the hospital and physical therapy. Throughout his whole journey, he never lost his sense of humor, quick wit or love for his family including his mom and dad.

A private family gathering will be held at the family lake house, The Bonnie View. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Brain Tumor Association in honor of Bruce Johnson.

Arrangements were handled with Edmonds and Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, IN.
