Berniece Elizabeth (Flitter) Rhoda passes away at 100

Berniece Elizabeth (Flitter) Rhoda, of San Bernardino, CA, formerly of Chesterton, passed away on June 30 at age 100 years, 7 months, and 19 days.

She was born November 11, 1919, on a farm in Wanatah to Leo and Dora (Mohlke) Flitter, the second of five children. She celebrated her 100th birthday in November, 2019, in grand style at a gala celebration attended by more than 100 guests.

Berniece graduated from Chesterton High School in 1937. She married Guy Leonard Rhoda, son of Leonard and Mabel Rhoda, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church on September 30, 1939. The Rhodas moved to San Bernardino in 1954 with their children Richard and Diane.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy Rhoda, her daughter, Diane Isaacs, and three of her siblings, Annabell Flitter, Clarence Flitter, and Leona (Flitter) Biggs.

She is survived by her sister, Doris Friday of Chesterton, sister-in-law, Alice Flitter of Valparaiso, son Richard Rhoda of Hacienda Heights, California, grandsons Bryan Vandegrift, Jeffrey (Lisa) Vandegrift, and Paul (Summer) Rhoda, and six great-grandchildren. She will be missed by many.
