Robert G. "Bob"
Dunbar passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2019.
He was born in
Ripley County, Indiana, on October 23, 1929, to Elmer and Minola Dunbar, who
preceded him in death.
He is survived by
his wife of 65 years, Becky (Brodbeck) Dunbar; children, Debbie (Craig)
Brown of Lincoln, NE, Richard (Sandy) Dunbar of Sturgis, MI, and David
(Sandy) Dunbar of Westfield, IN; grandchildren, Erica Brown, Courtney (Todd)
Gibb, Cole Brown, Michael (Jen) Dunbar, Lauren (Jared) Knight, Joseph Dunbar
and Jacob Dunbar; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Richard (Patty)
Dunbar, Pat (Beverly) Dunbar; sister, Jane (Duane) Feurer; and numerous
nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bob was a graduate
of Chesterton High School, class of 1947. He proudly served four years in
the United States Air Force from 1951-1954. Bob served in Korea where he
worked as an aircraft engine mechanic on the Douglas B26. He ended his
service working on the Mitchell B25 at Reese Air Force Base in Lubbock, TX.
Bob started with Chesterton State Bank in 1955 and became President in 1971
until his retirement in 1992 as the Vice Chairman of CSB/INB Banking Company
North. He received the Sagamore of the Wabash in 1992. Bob graduated from
the Indiana College of Mortuary Science, American Institute of Banking,
University of Wisconsin School of Banking and the Senior Bank School of
Management Seminar from Harvard University. He was most recently a member of
the Chesterton United Methodist Church. Bob was the President of the Portage
Optimist Club, a member of the Portage Business Association later known as
the Chamber of Commerce. He was a volunteer for United Way of Porter County
and Chesterton Little League serving as Treasurer. Bob played a leading role
in establishing the Duneland Chamber of Commerce in Chesterton. He was a
Chesterton-Porter Rotary member since 1969, twice serving as President. Bob
was a Paul Harris Fellow and was on the Chesterton Utility board, Northwest
Indiana Forum, Porter County VNA Board as Treasurer, the Pines Village
board, Porter Memorial Hospital Association, Conference of State Bank
Supervisors Board, and the Indiana Bankers Association District, having
served as President.

charitable organization started by Bob and Becky to support the Duneland

A visitation will
be held on Sunday, November 24, 2019, from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., at
Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, IN 46304. Private
funeral service and burial will take place at a later date.
