Sullivan, age 89 of Chesterton, IN, passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2019.
He was born on July
12, 1929, in Chicago, IL, to James and Goldie (Shapiro) Sullivan.
Leonard is survived
by his sons; Terry (Cydney) Sullivan, John (Marylou) Sullivan and William
(Roxanne) Ortiz; daughters, Michele (Hank) Ysaguirre, Kathi May and Dolores
Ortiz; brother, Donald (Lynette) Sullivan; sisters, Beverly Crawford and
Lois Sullivan; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in
death by his parents and wife, Helen (Piersing) Sullivan.
Leonard was a
Social Worker/Administrator of the Food Stamp Department for Lake County
Indiana for many years. He was very active in the DAV program for disabled
veterans. Leonard was also a very active advocate for many needy families
and civic issues. He was one of the early pioneers for championing the
rights of the handicapped population. Leonard would often travel to the
state capital and Washington, D.C. to help expand awareness of the needs of
all handicapped individuals. He was known all around town for driving his
golf cart to Leonardís restaurant almost every day. He loved his family and
especially loved spending time with his grandkids. Leonard was a very
generous man who was always willing to lend a helping hand.

be on Monday, June 17, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral
